There were many terrorist attacks across many nations before 9/11. It just happens that post-9/11 awareness of such activities makes them seem more prevalent. New York, London, Madrid, Bali, Bombay, Moscow, Paris, Amsterdam. These murderers are indiscriminate, if you do not stand up to them now, you will be living under an Islamic caliphate and Sharia law.
